Recently the 82nd FG website received 2 photos from Martin Kyburz, Webmaster of, SwissMustangs.ch. The 2 photos were of 'unidentfied' recovered P-38 plane pieces. A wing and a yellow painted tale section with the letter 'J' on it. The 96th Squadron planes were coded with the letter 'B' with another letter or number on the boom, 'BJ'. The last part of the plane code, was painted on the tail section, 'J'. After researching 82nd FG mission reports, the photos of the unidentified recovered P-38 pieces were identified as the P-38 flown by, 1st Lt. William B. Lassiter.
Additional photos have now been received from Martin and are now part of the 82nd Fighter Group website.
Our most sincere thanks and gratitude to Martin and everyone involved in the recovery of the P-38 flown by William B. Lassiter.
