Captain Henry E. (Pete) Collins
Henry E. (Pete) Collins enlisted in the Army Air Corp in August, 1942 and was put on Active Duty September 16, 1942. After training in Combat Intelligence, he was assigned to the 12th Air force in Tunis on October 31, 1943. From this assignment, he was transferred to the 82nd Fighter Group on December 14, 1943, and served with that unit until the end of hostilities in Europe. After serving with the 82nd Fighter Group, he requested a transfer to the far-east to continue service against the Japanese. The war with Japan ended while he was in route. Discharged from the Air Corp. in August, 1945, he entered the active reserve, and was recalled to duty in 1950 for the
Korean conflict. Major Henry E. Collins was killed in the crash of an R-B36 in the North Atlantic Ocean in August, 1953. The attached files are from his personal records maintained by the family.
